                               Goomburra Weekend

A biker, who worked on a horse farm, got pulled over by a state trooper for speeding. Since it was a rural road with no traffic, the biker tried to get the trooper to let him off with a warning. Instead, the trooper lectured the biker about speeding, and  generally gave the biker a hard time.

Finally, the trooper got around to writing the ticket, and as he was doing that he kept swatting at some flies that were buzzing around his head.

The biker said, "Having some problems with Circle Flies?" The trooper stopped writing the ticket and said--"Well yeah, if that's what they are--I never heard of Circle Flies."

So the biker says--"Well, Circle Flies are common on farms. See, they're called Circle Flies because they're always found circling around the back end of a horse." The trooper says, "Oh," and goes back to writing the ticket.

After a minute he stops and says, "Hey - Are you trying to call me a horse's ass?" The biker says, "No officer. I have too much respect for cops to even think about calling you a horse's ass." The trooper says, "Well, that's a good thing," and goes back to writing the ticket.

As the trooper hands him the ticket, the biker says,  "Hard to fool them flies though."

The Secretary’s Desk….

Gidday all,

Well, the magazine’s a bit late but last week was a bit busy for me.  Missed Monday’s meeting after being late home and not feeling too well.  Late nights all week as I was under orders to be at home Friday for the preparations.

Saturday unavailable to produce magazine as there was a wedding to attend.  Now it’s all done, both the magazine and No. 1 son is married and they are away on their honeymoon.

Just between you and me, the magazine didn’t get done on Sunday either and that was either the food or a couple of red wines that I should not have had.  As the meal was great, I guess it was the red.

Bill’s comments are very appropriate and we all need to heed them.  Having put them into the mag last night, I thought of them this morning as I had to pass a motorcycle lying on the road under the front of a ute bullbar.  Whose fault? Who knows?  Looked like someone went through the red light but the bike could have just as easily been hit from behind.  I just saw the aftermath, the fire engine, the police and the wreckage, and had to ride on.  I could only hope the rider was OK.  Could not find anything on the news tonight, maybe tomorrow.

Take care, look out for yourself.

Keep the black bits on the bitumen and the shiny side up,

Bevan

Hi all,

Well the AGM has come and gone, and a very successful event it was.

The venue was very good with accommodation for all on site, a great venue for the meeting, and a nice place to eat.

Congratulations must go to Val and the team that put the meeting together.

As those of you who were at the meeting this month know, we are about to review our constitution.

This is the first review since the club’s incorporation so it is a milestone event, and all financial members are invited to contribute by way of submission to the club Secretary.

The Committee will be reviewing the constitution at an extraordinary committee meeting on 13 July, and from that we will make a submission to the members for their consideration. All members will be provided with a copy of the amended (if deemed necessary) constitution, and then it will be put to the club for endorsement at a general meeting. The final constitution will then be lodged with the Dept of Fair Trading.

There are just two issues that I would like to address in this issue and they are safety, and comradeship.

The first issue is safety. It disturbs me that I don’t think there has been a week go by that the Gold Coast Bulletin has not reported at least one motorcyclist has been killed. The effect on theses riders’ families and friends is devastating, but the ripple effect washes over all motorcyclists.

It is this type of statistic that some people seize on to take away more of the freedoms that we enjoy as motorcyclists. I believe that as a motorcycling organization we should be actively involved in promoting motorcycle safety. Only this way will we prevent the headline seekers from usurping that role and initiating laws and practices that do nothing to increase safety, and only make it more difficult to enjoy our chosen freedom. If you have ideas on how we can promote motorcycle safety please let me know.

The second issue is our new members. I am looking forward to a year where we continue the comradeship, and engage our new members in a way that makes them want to stay.

Lets make 2007/08 another safe and enjoyable motorcycling year for everyone.

Keep it up.

Bill Carter

Hello everyone,

Our AGM has come and gone, and what a great week-end we had.  Our main consideration for 2007-8 is to encourage new faces on our committee.  In the meantime I have to say that our club has enjoyed a great year of friendship, socials and monthly rides.  This past year I have to extend my very special thanks to Charleen who so readily took over as Secretary for me while I was recovering from my accident - thank you so very much Charleen.

I have mentioned that I am the only female on our committee, but this is not entirely true, the committee members’ wives have been very supportive and active contributors to our very social committee meetings.  Girls, I thank you for your valuable and helpful assistance, and also for the very tasty suppers we enjoy!

Thank you to the guys who make my job as secretary very easy, and for all the work, and support you do - especially Bevan who really does a lot of the correspondence through his role as Communications Officer.

Our committee works very hard to make this club the fun and active social club we like - we appreciate all and any support from you our members as well.

Looking forward to another eventful year for our club, and growing membership.

Lastly but by no means least, thank you Thommo for your support and the important reminders - again!

So, we are continuing our teamwork - next important issue is our Christmas party venue.

Ride Safely.

Social Ride 23 June 2007

I am not sure how we came to get this ride – just in the right place at the wrong time. Anyway, as no one else was putting their hand up to organise a social ride for June, I seemed to be the last one standing.

It wasn’t that hard actually. My family and I had been to Fiasco’s Restaurant in the Parkwood Tavern on 2 or 3 other occasions, and had particularly enjoyed their new Italian menu. The food had always been good, there was plenty of it, and the prices were reasonable. All I had to do was to make the booking and decide where to start.

I made the reservation for 20 with an option to add or subtract on the night, and promised I would call about 30 minutes before our arrival with the final numbers.

I decided to start at BP Stapleton as it is easy for everyone to get to, and a reasonable coffee can be bought at the Wild Bean Café.

Thanks to Bevan a notice was sent out to call in with numbers, and we had about 10 reply. Saturday morning greeted us with rain, and I was having some doubts about the number of places I had reserved at Fiasco’s.

We understand that not everyone likes to get their tyres wet, especially at night. Jane rang for a weather report, and Wayne also called to see if it would be called off due to the weather. On both occasions I put on my brave voice and said “of course, we’re bikies aren’t we”? Anyway, we would be there, and I left it to them to make their own risk assessment and decide.

did a great job of not only showing people the way, but some were extra complimentary about my radio commentary. One term that was used was that I sounded like a banshee. I am not sure what that is but I was very flattered to have the compliment.

People tried a variety of dishes and no one was complaining about quality, quantity, or price, (except Clint until we sorted it out). They wanted us to have one bill for the table, (strange custom), and as I was the only one called “Bill” we thought everything was OK – until it came time to pay. That was when we discovered that they meant only one invoice for the table. We also discovered that the reason they needed one invoice was because the wait staff could not add or subtract without a calculator. Even then they got so tied up that they demanded that Clint pay an extra $34.00. I soon realised that Mary’s and my tab came to $34.00 and when I was able to produce the receipt they realised they hadn’t taken my money off the total and had to refund Clint the extra charge.

With that settled we took the covers off the bikes and headed out to Mc Café at Coomera for a coffee. The staff there did a great job providing us with coffees, teas, and hot chocolates and the joviality continued for another hour before we all headed off for home.

We had a great night and we hope that everyone else did too.

We’ll see you at the next meeting.

BillandMary Carter

Later that afternoon my confidence grew as some sun came out. We got so excited that we took off all of our clothes and raced outside to top up the tan. Well the cat and the dog did anyway. I would have but I am still affected by the last time I took my clothes off at the beach. I stripped down to my bathers and three greenies started pouring buckets of water over me and tried to roll me into the water. I even shower in the dark now.

When we arrived at the BP at 5.15pm we were surprised to see Bear and Jane already there. They said that they arrived at 4.30pm just to be sure they would get a place. Now that’s commitment as they have to come from Rosewood. A steady stream of intrepid Wingers arrived and the final number finished at 9 bikes and 17 people which is not bad for a rainy night.

The ride down was rather uneventful as we went straight there and the ride leader, in all modesty,

John’s Warwick AGM Ride

Hi all, I made it back safe and well to Melb!!!!

First of all I must apologise for not saying good by’s, I had intended to depart at 8.00 when every body was at breakfast, BUT when I was ready at 7.00 my trusty stead was whinnying to get going. When I stuck my head out the door there was only two souls to be seen, I asked that they say by’s for me.

My trip started at 7.00 am on Thursday 14th in Melb, the weather bureau stated that it was cold; I thought what the difference, it was going to be cold at 7.00 as well as 9.00. What a big mistake, it seemed to get colder as the day got longer, 45 minutes later going through a little town called Coldstream just out of town it was -1. I had to stop a couple of times to put the hands on the motor to get feeling back into the fingers. Two hours later going out of Bonnie Doon near Eildon Weir I was deciding was I still freezing or just “Bloody Cold”.

Between there and Benalla I felt a twinge of warmth and checked the temp and it was      4 what a heat wave. The temp never topped 13 all the way to Dubbo arriving at 5.30pm, first day stop; I didn’t get warm the whole day.

Second day to Warwick, well what a day, left at 7.30, temp a bit more respectable, and was making good time until I hit Tamworth at 12.00 for some PETROL, I pulled into the Shell servo and stopped at the bowser

that was yellow and had Unleaded on it, got off the stead and walked around to the other side and grabbed the nozzle and put in 11 litres and when I put the handle back I saw a sign that said “Warning Diesel” just above the handle slot, well after a couple of descriptive words as to what I had done, I saw the attendant and asked how to drain the tank, she stated no way, EPA, call the NRMA to have it done, and not here.

Well, after a couple of calls, the tray truck arrived 1 ½ Hrs later, the driver looked at the bike and commented that it was a big bike and “I don’t think I should pick this up, I might damage it”, so calling the local Honda dealer that I had organized to clean it, they came out with the trailer and the tie downs and back to the garage by 2.00, I should have asked them in the first place, off with the seat and out goes the fuel pump, we cleaned it all up and I was on my way by 3pm. What really got to me was the waiting for things to get going and having to pay for the diesel in the tank. I have learned my lesson to check the pump twice, which I did all the way from then on.

All went well, arriving at Warwick at 8.00 pm, checked in and stood in the shower for about 15 minutes trying to get things to feel better. Met a couple of the guys and ended up in Val’s room with everybody and had a couple of drinks and telling jokes, told you I wouldn’t remember them, then excused myself and hit the bed.

Saturday was good, went up the street to get a scarf to stop the wind going down back of my neck and some tucker, had a nanny nap at 12.00, every body arrived at 3.00, had the Pic’s taken and a chat, and to the meeting.

Sunday I left at 7.15 am, beautiful sunny day, went via Goondiwindi and down, Dubbo at 2.30 pm, West Wyalong 5.30, rang Margaret and said I was coming home, the weather forecast for Melbourne on Monday was 11 degrees, rain and possible hail, I thought I might as well go through

and be cold and miserable, then be wet, cold and miserable with all the Monday traffic to contend with. Arriving home at 11.30 pm, all well and glad to get off the bike.

To sum it all up I had a great time, seeing you guys, the greetings and friendship extended to me. Would I do it again “YES” but not in the middle of winter!!!!!!

John B

A man placed some flowers on the grave of his dearly departed mother and started back toward his car when his attention was diverted to this biker kneeling at a grave nearby.

The biker seemed to be praying with profound intensity and kept repeating,

"Why did you have to die?  Why did you have to die?"

The first man approached him and said, "Sir, I don't wish to interfere with your private grief, but this demonstration of pain is more than I've ever seen before.

For whom do you mourn so deeply?  A child?  A parent?"

The biker took a moment to collect himself, and then replied, "My wife's first husband."

Our AGM Ride

Had to work on Friday so it was going to be a “miss Friday night and ride up with the Saturday crew” kind of weekend.

10:00pm and thinking about hitting the sack and the phone rings.  Cheerful voices immediately tell me “You should be here, it’s so hot we’re sweating”.  “Bulls**t, I lived there for long enough to know you’re all freezing” I replied having spent too many winter nights in the Warwick area.  “It’s freezing” was the reply.

Oh well, not missing anything to do with the weather anyway.  Saturday dawns a beautiful crisp day and Therese and I decide to forgo the ride with the group and do the honourable thing and do social calls on the way.  First to the PA hospital to visit Therese’s brother after a liver transplant then on to Warwick to visit Therese’s sister.  About 15 klms short of Warwick Therese looks over my shoulder and sees the fuel gauge which is about a ½ tank below empty and asks if it’s working.  Yep is the reply, figured we’d make it so saved the fuel stop.  Redlight comes on about 5 klms later.

We refuel, do the visiting thing, arrive at the motel, and are last to check-in, head to the pub for some refreshments and line up for the photos.

Photos done, a few social drinks and a chat, and off to the AGM.

With only one nomination for each position the AGM does not take long, the raffle drawing takes a while though.  Thanks again to all our sponsors, especially Reg Jeffery for the Lucky Door prize jacket that Therese won.  It’s too big for her and gives me an incentive to lose a few kilos so I can claim it.

The AGM was followed by a beautiful meal then a few social drinks.  It’s great to see the gradual conversion occurring within the group as I don’t think I’ve seen such a big

variety of port at any of our previous get togethers.  Maybe it was the anticipation of the cold weather.  Whatever the reason, it was a good night and I don’t think there was a lot left by the time we finished.

Up and about on Sunday morning and John Brak has already left.  We all hope he only uses unleaded on the way home.

Bear’s Necessities…..

Once again, the meal is fantastic and enjoyed by all then it’s onto the bikes for a lap of the main street, I remember Saturday mornings doing this many times in a previous life.

Gidday Everyone!

Some small quick tests.

1.        Air Pressure in Tyres

2.        Rear Shockie air pressure - because last time you rode your ‘Wing you may have had a pillion or a trailer on.

3.        Check Engine Oil

4.        Check Coolant dip stick

5.        Flick through your lights especially if you take off in the daylight and you maybe returning in the dark.

Five to ten minute checks can save you thousands.

Other Monthly Checks.

There is nothing wrong with washing or cleaning your ‘Wing yourself because you can be the best tool you have.  You can check things as you go like loose bolts, screws etc etc....(if you think you can get up), lay down and a have a look at the brake pads thickness - spin back wheel by hand (in neutral of course) and listen for noises or vibrations.  Look up at the shockies for any oil leaks.  Look at the condition of the rear tyre for splits, cracks, tread depths. Make sure there are no oil drips on the side wall of the tyre or anywhere else.

O.K. move along to the centre of the ‘Wing - look for oil weeps out of ‘tell-tail’ holes from the clutch slave cylinder etc. A small torch is a good idea to keep in your ‘Wing or tool chest.

Righto! Look under the front of the engine/water pump area.  Look at the ’tell-tail’ hole and make sure there is no green or white stain run from the hole.  Move to the front wheel, lean ’Wing back on centre stand and spin front wheel and listen for noise or vibration in front wheel bearing.  You may need a hand leaning ’Wing back with this one.

Next check with your torch through the disc cover and check the thickness of front brake pads.  The pads should be replaced when the wear indicator reaches the edge of the brake disc.

O.K. next quick check steering head bearings - climb aboard, take grip of the handle bars and lift up and down - hopefully there is no movement.  Next, turn handle bars side to side and make sure it doesn’t feel ’notchy’.  This test should be done while your ‘Wing is on the centre stand also.  Next, make sure clutch and brake levers have good resistance as well as the foot brake.

If any of these items have failed (or you’re not quite sure) these simple tests see your mechanic or Honda dealer service section.

Have a good ride.

Bear

The decision is made to head home via Leyburn, Clifton, Heifer Creek and Gatton as planned so those coming the long way refuel and say farewell to those taking the short way home.

A final lap of town and we head west for a visit to Leslie Dam which like most other dams is quite low and not releasing any water.

Back on the bikes and head further west to Karara then head north toward Leyburn where we do a quick lap of the town and go past the local which is owned by Shane Webkie.

Leyburn is known for the local Sprint races held in August.  This involves all sorts of vehicles, old and new, doing times sprints through the town streets.  Discussion follows and we decide to attend the event.  See the ride calendar for 19th August.

Onward to Clifton through the countryside and through town before I remember we should have stopped for coffee.  No one demands a break so we continue on to the Heifer Creek road and head for Gatton.

As we go through Gatton, we decide that the Plainlands Hotel would be a good place to stop for lunch totally ignoring the advertised stopping point of Gatton.

We arrive at the Plainlands Hotel and as we dismount, a blue 1800 rolls in and it turns out it’s our new members from Toowoomba, David and Amanda Hunt, who could not make the AGM but decided to meet us in Gatton.  Unfortunately we didn’t stop, so they had to chase us.  Glad they did, always good to meet new members.

After lunch, it was farewells all round and the group headed for home.

It you weren’t there, you missed a good weekend.  Try to make it next year, you don’t have to worry about getting a committee job, nominations are always organised before the meeting.

See ya on the road

A crusty old Sergeant Major found himself at a gala event, hosted by a local liberal arts college. There was no shortage of extremely young, idealistic ladies in attendance, one of whom approached the Sergeant Major for conversation.

She said, "Excuse me, Sergeant Major, but you seem to be a very serious man. Is something bothering you?"

"Negative, ma'am," the Sergeant Major said, "Just serious by nature."

"The young lady looked at his awards and decorations and said, "It looks like you have seen a lot of action."

The Sergeant Major's short reply was, "Yes, ma'am, a lot of action."

The young lady, tiring of trying to start up a conversation, said, "You know, you should lighten up a little. Relax and enjoy

yourself."

The Sergeant Major just stared at her in his serious manner.

Finally the young lady said, "You know, I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but when is the last time you had sex?"

The Sergeant Major looked at her and replied, "1955."

She said, "Well, there you are. You really need to chill out and quit taking everything so seriously! I mean, no sex since 1955! She took his hand and led him to a private room, where she proceeded to "relax" him several times.

Afterwards, and panting for breath, she leaned against his bare chest and said, "Wow, you sure didn't forget much since 1955!"

The Sergeant Major, glancing at his watch, said in his matter-of-fact voice, "I hope not, it's only 2130 now."

YOU GOTTA LOVE THAT MILITARY TIME !!!!
