Skidmore’s Stanthorpe Ride

14th August 2010 - Annette Version

Early morning rise, don’t want to be late.... A very pleasant breakfast at BP Stapleton with Trevor & Lee to set us right for the day. We had prearranged with Mike & Robyn & Phil & Vicki to meet across on Stanmore Road in readiness for the ride trough to Beaudesert to meet up with the another few riders. In Beaudesert with a little time to kill we have a coffee and, as per usual, reorganise the table & chairs, meeting & greeting new people as they arrive: Robin & Mike, Shirley & Gary, Sue & Peter, Julie & Wayne & others on various bikes.

Whilst chatting with our new company, another GoldWing pulled up across the road near our bikes. Mike being the social sort of chap strolled over to have a word, invited them to join us finding that they were headed to Stanthorpe as well. From Beaudesert we travelled on the new stretch of highway through to Boonah & headed up to Queen Mary Falls, stopping at the lookout on the way. Beautiful day with excellent scenery.

Lunched at the little cafe at the falls with a surprise meeting of Scott, Irene & family, as they were enjoying a family day out. You are never far from someone you know.... All fed & water we continued on through to Kilarney, Warwick & finally Stanthorpe, where we checked in for the night. A quick dash for the Winery to get a couple of bottles of the good stuff. Then it was off again to the Lavender Farm for a look, followed by a short ride for a quick hello to John & Gwenda’s before heading to the RSL for Dinner. A very pleasant night was had by all. Great riding, good roads & with excellent views, although there was a couple of water crossings to deal with, everyone manage well with no incidents.

Sunday morning was a little sleep in as we all intended to ride just 10 minutes out of town to have brekkie together. No one warned us that they had closed down though..... Never mind, we eat too much anyway..... a bit of a roadside meeting took place which broke us up into two groups. Few bikes going south & the other going east.... the eastern group had breakfast at the truck stop in Warwick followed by ice-cream & coffee at McCafe in Yamanto saying our final farewells before the last stretch for home...... I haven’t from the others that went south as yet but I’m sure they all enjoyed themselves as well. Thanks Mike for a great weekend ride.

Excellent weekend: Great company, Great weather, Excellent scenery

Bikes: 2 Rockets, 1 Suzuki Bandit, 1 Yamaha & we ended up with 5 Wings
