Fox and Hounds (rub a dub)
Well my day started in Casino at 5.00am working for the day and it was @#$%ing down all day, and I was thinking and hoping that the weather was better at home, stupid me. A call from Kevin asking if it was still on confirmed my worst thoughts so I said yes of course it is, but tonight we will be Goldwing owners and all go in our cars but only for safety reasons (nothing to do with getting old and soft), so nothing changed apart from the mode of transport.
So we turned up at BP Staplyton at 5.30 to find Kevin and Morag there waiting, with Eric and Deb, Larry and Annette, and Bill and Mary all not far behind, and after a couple of phone calls and no one else looked like turning up we headed off at 6.00, straight up the motorway on double speed wipers with everyone on the road driving like nutters, hitting their brakes just because someone else in front did and so on, we left the motorway at the Oxenford turn off all still together and headed towards Mount Tamborine. Within about 2 kms, a small bus cut in on our group and then drove the rest of the way at a veeeeery slooooooooow speeeed. The weather conditions were even worse in the dark country lanes, but we all arrived safe and sound. There are some instances that we wish we had gone on the bikes and some when we think that we made the right decision and this was definitely the latter.
Meeting us at the pub was Paul and Sioux Edwards with their son and daughter in law, both over for a holiday to soak up some sun, they arrived last Sunday and it’s been raining since so hopefully it will come right soon, inside the nice warm pub was Phil and Vicki with their grandkids Roxy and Jack, it was great to see them as they have been busy lately and not been on any rides for a while.
So in all 18 people turned up on a lousy wet night, but the food and service we received all night really was excellent and a must to try if you’re in this neck of the woods, or perhaps we will do it on another social as the ride up is quite nice if the weather permits. The Fox and Hounds really is about as close as you can get to an English pub, with so much memorabilia to look at inside, with some of the stuff funny and all of it original. Eric was quite taken with the telephone box that was outside and was tempted to try and get it in his car but it was way too heavy and would not fit, besides it was raining anyway.
After about 2 hours of eating and drinking and talking etc, it was time to head back down the hill to BP Coomera for a coffee and another chat and a final farewell, yet another great night with great food and good company, and everyone seemed to enjoy the night. That about all for now and sorry for those that missed out as it really was a good night.
Stay safe
Trevor and Lee
