We look forward to catching up with everyone on rides or at socials in the coming year. Today is the anniversary of our good friend and Life Member Ray Thomas. I'm sure Ray, his family, and Gail are in our thoughts today. To any of you who have stood the test of time and were with the AWRA back in the early days, you are probably aware that our former Member No 89, Ken Tacon, has been ill for some time with cancer. Sadly, Ken lost the fight and passed away last night. May he rest in peace. Please keep Doreen and the family in your thoughts at this time. She continues to improve, had all her stitches out this morning, and is raring to get on with some serious rehab routines. | Tue 05-Aug | For those who weren't at last night's meeting, the not-so-good news is John and Lily Reid (Vice President and Property Officer) had an off on Monday while returning home from a weekend away. John is not sure what went wrong but says the bike just felt like it was on ice and went down. Too many unknown factors to speculate. John got minor rib and back injuries and spent the night in hospital but is home now, but Lily fared worse. She will need surgery for a broken ankle and leg gash and also has arm/shoulder injuries. She is in the Royal Brisbane Hospital but being moved so we are not sure of the room number yet. More info as it comes to hand. | Clint | |||

| Tue 22-Jul | At July's General Meeting, new member's were welcomed with Marty & Penny Anderson joining up & introducing the first 2nd generation 2012 Blue Goldwing to the club, welcome Guys. Also joining were Seth Harris & Atonetta Harris from Boonah('94 Titanium Wing) who have already been on many runs with us and we wish them a warm welcome also. Attending also were Rob & Jane Harriss to say hello. They are former members to those who do not know were there early in the clubs history and are former committee members who did great work for the club and still have many friends among our group. Rob has recently began servicing Goldwing's at his business in Rosewood and is highly recommended by all who have used his services and for a more personal experience at repairs & servicing, you will not find better. To contact, ring Jane or Rob on(07)54642444. I also have to report that a statement that I made re: Brisbane Motorcycles not having a Goldwing franciese anymore is actually incorrect. This story was told to me by a salesman at Team Moto, Springwood who actually bragged about it also saying anyone who had bought Goldwings from Brisbane Motorcycles would have no warranty and I guess I should have become suspicious at that wild statement, but could not foresee a salesman telling lies of this magnitude to the general public. I have spoken to the Sales Manager at Brisbane Motorcycles and left it in his hands about what they wish to do about this sort of behaviour. So the most important point is that Brisbane IS still a dealer and is quite keen to give support to any Goldwing owner. | KevinK | |||

| Sun 22-Jun | With a sad heart,I have to announce the death of Clive Godbar who came to say hello to us at the Nambucca AGM this year. Clive was still a member of the AGA and with a member number of 13 was a founding member. He was unfortunately killed in a car crash yesterday while returning from seeing his wife Fran in Port Macquarie Base Hospital(to his home at Sth West Rocks). It is believed he may have had a heart attack while driving. He had been diagnosed with inoperable heart problems but it is still a shock to find out how his life finished. A gentle soul who had so many stories to tell and a walking encyclopedia on all things Goldwings and a real joy to talk to and spend time with. Very sad & will be missed. Two day racing but Sunday is the big day with partner Danny Green's Coward Punch initiative being supported this year to raise awareness and try to stamp out this blight on society. Group rides to 2014 Superbike will be in support of "Coward Punch Initiative" At the events, motorcyclists will be invited to join a lunchtime "Lap of Champions" to raise awareness and raise funds. Australian Superbikes will donate $5.00 for each rider who participates in the ride (Sunday 6th April) There group admissions, $30 per Adult for 10, $25 for 11-20 and $20 for 21-40. | Thu 17-Jan | What a wonderful day for Valerie. All up a reported 31 Goldwings turned up to farewell our most loved Wing Rider on her Last Ride with Wing Riders. It started with a moving ceremony at St Andrews church, South Brisbane. Wing Riders, past and present, from throughout the land came to pay their respects. Then six wings and Buddha preceded the limo and the rest fell in behind, followed by numerous cars. We upset the traffic all the way from South Brisbane to Mt Gravatt with our slow ride in the near peak hour traffic. A few poor souls had to take the long way home as no one broke our convoy to take the exits. At Mt Gravatt, all gathered around whilst Valerie was laid to rest. Then a great wake at Yeronga with over 700 Valerie photos being played set to her favourite music. There's a few photos from the day on the Gallery section. Hope to see more there soon. | Wed 31-Oct | Valerie News And it is all good. Well, as good can be hoped for in the circumstances. Testing showed that the particular cancer Valerie has is one that can be managed with a new drug that is administered in tablet form. The drug apparently only attacks the cancer cells and not surrounding tissue. So, at this stage, no heavy radiation or chemo is needed. Valerie will most likely be going home next week and will get daily nursing assistance. Her major worry then will be that Thommo will be looking after her the rest of the day. Further testing is ongoing to determine the exact treatment and in the meantime they are trying to build her up physically preparing for the onslaught to come. | Clint | |||

It looks bloody painful as it has left him with a 400 mm scar with the possabilities of something around the same size on his chest, but Grumpys comment was that chicks really like dig scars. Was really good to catch up with him, his bike is already to go with all the bling installed already, if you get a chance pop in and say hi cos he cant go anywhere for another 5 days or so. | Thu 15-Mar | I have upgraded the search method for past meeting minutes. The previous system used javascript and had problems dealing with some computers. So now it is an easy search from a couple of dropdown lists to get the meeting type, then the date. This process formulates the old filename and then gets the old html file. AGM minutes will continue to be found in this fashion for the foreseeable future. All newer General and Committee minutes from 2011 on are held on a database. | Mon 12-Mar | I hope all had a good AGM last week-end. If you enjoyed the week-end and would like to do it again, there is the "Christmas in July" week-end coming up on the 20th & 21st of naturally in July. I mention this at this time (Yes I know it is a fair way off) because as you probably noticed Stanthorpe is a very busy town and there is always some event on in town and quite often the town is booked out. Some people did have issues trying to get accomadation for the AGM, so at this time the Top Of Town is already receiving bookings for the July week end, so I can't impress strongly enough on people wishing to attend to make a booking as soon as possible to avoid dissapointment. Everyone that attended last year I believe had a great week-end and were keen that we do it again. This time, to make it a bit less of a strain on our tireless ladies we have our catering crew from the AGM have promised to return for the same cost ($25 per head)and I think all would agree about their quality of service. So please have a think about whether you would be interested in attending and book accomadation quickly the "Top of Town" phone No. is 46814888 and Linda is the lady to talk to. As usual please use the RSVP section as this is important to gauge numbers for catering and to whether we will get our Chef back fron up North. Summary: Kuryakyn is recalling certain aftermarket passenger floorboard mounts, part number 607005, sold and installed for use on 2001-2012 Honda GL1800 (GoldWing) motorcycles. This mount was sold on Kuryakyn 'transformer' passenger floorboard sets, part number 7005 from September 15, 2008, to present. The floorboard mount may crack and break free from the mounting bolts that secure the mount to the motorcycle. Consequence: The passenger floorboard may separate from the vehicle, possibly resulting in injury or a crash. Remedy: Kuryakyn will notify owners and provide replacement mount kits free of charge. | Tue 17-Jan | Dinner at Chancellor Tavern - Night Ride What a line up What a great turn up for our first night ride in a very long time, unfortunately at the last minute Deb couldn't make it, still having problems with her knee. We had 11 Wings, 2 Cars, 25 in total I believe, which included 4 guests, Larry and Annette's daughter and grandson, as well as two prospective new members, John and Dee on another Red 1500. An easy ride up the highway, just enjoying the cooler night air and the pleasant ride. We arrived at the Chancellor Taver around 7pm to be met by Ivan and Irene and shortly after by Rusty and Maree (Michele). After a nice meal, Rusty led us on the scenic route up over Buderim, down into Mooloolabah for the usual -Look at Me, Look at Me- drive through the restaurant and cafe area, then along the coastal road headed for Coolum and the usual coffee and/or icecream. It was unfortunate that the Coffee club was just closing and would not stay open despite our numbers, their loss, half decided on Icecream and the other half on coffee at Maccas and some friendly chit Chat. The Ride back was straight forward, with everyone enjoying the views and the crisp night, a few of us stopping at BP South Caboolture for coffee and farewell. Again thanks to everyone for another enjoyable night of companionship and frienship. | Tue 10-Jan | In a follow-up to the previously mentioned "Meet & Greet"with Interstate Goldwingers, I wish to advise the Following. A date has beeen fixed being the 25-27th of May. We have arranged with our Coffs Harbour members Bob & Fran Miller, who run the Town Lodge Motor Inn in the middle of Coffs Harbour to provide their Motel as the destination. The plan is to meet & greet on the Friday night. If sufficient numbers are there, Fran & Bob may close the courtyard of the Motel and put tables and chairs so we can all interact together. A ride is planned on the Saturday afternoon(to allow time for those coming Sat to arrive, followed by a meal at the Services club across the road on the Saturday Night where there is space to converse later, or alternatively to again retire to the Motel courtyard. Sunday will be pack up and go home time. This is an unique experienced to be part of and the response from down South (The Australian Goldwing Association) is very positive. OK so it is now all up to you, we have had a good Southern response so lets not let QLD down, lets see as many of you as we can at this event. Anyone reading this who is not a member of either of these groups, you are quite welcome to come along and sample the Goldwing groups and you wish to join one or both of these Associations. | Kevin & Morag. | |||
| Wed 04-Jan | The Australian Goldwing Assoc.has been in contact with me to advise(as was previously mentioned at a General Meeting) that they are having an Australia wide get together at Alice Springs on the week beginning 7th of May to the 13th of May this year. Everyone is of course invited and if anyone is interested, please view their web-site under "Wings in the Springs"and check on accomodation as I believe it is filling fast. I believe this is the first time anyone has tried to run a National get-together of Wings and should be great event. If there is sufficient interest from our group, will try to form an agenda for those wishing to participate. Any further enquiries could be directed to Greg O'Loughan of the AGA who is only too happy to help you out(Again go to their website for his details). Also trying to arrange a get together with the AGA with riders from Sydney, Armidale & Port Macquarie area,will talk to our People in Stanthorpe, also other Chapters's of the AGA if we can arrange this deal. Ideally looking for somewhere central like Coff's Harbour or Port Macquarie, looking at the week-end of 16/17/18th in March to try to avoid Ulysses AGM & School Holiday clash's also, as that always restricts places to stay and increases costs. The dinner Matt and his staff prepared was once again very good, with plenty of food and variety. Our entertainment provided by Col impersonating Elvis, Buddy Holley and others kept us all amused and enjoying the evening, thanks also to our own Elvis impersonator, Phil for his impromptu performance. To everyone thanks for the great company and frienship over the weekend, shared with good food and the odd drink or two. May have to con Bevan into providing more of his great brew. | Tue 25-Oct | If you were not already aware,Gavin Crabb (Alias- Grumpy) who is one of our latest new members was involved in a accident on his Goldwing while going to work on Monday Morning. He was only 100 Metres from work, when a car did a U-Turn only about 50 metres in front of him, giving him no time to avoid the crash. Result is 7 broken ribs(2 of them in 2 places) along with other injuries including a broken collarbone. His 'Wing is a write-off but fortunately fully insured, which is at least some small consulation. He is unsure how long he will be hospitised and I am sure he would appreciate a visit or a call. Gavin is a very enthusiastic member, rarely missing an event since his joining, so lets do the right thing by him and support him in his hour of need. | Thu 07-Jul | Ride Coordinators can now enter and remove rides from the calendar themselves, saving the double handling of sending to the webmaster then going on the site. This also saves time as they don't have to wait until I get time to upload. Also you will notice the addition of RSVP buttons beside selected rides. These are for the information of the Coordinators and ride leaders when definite numbers are needed for a ride, e.g. for booking purposes. Please assist ride leaders, which may be yourself, by taking the couple of minutes to show you are attending. I've tried to make it as simple as possible with only three fields to fill in. If your circumstances change you can use the form again but with a negative number which will effectively cancel out the earlier entry. Thanks. | Clint |
